Installation notes for RealPlayer patchThis text describes how-to apply the RealPlayer patch and install the RealPlayer. First, make sure you have about 850MB free disk space available for the build process. You can build the player for any gtk+ framework. As prerequisits you propably need to install the latest versions of the libtheora, libvorbis, libogg libraries. Additionally, you might also need to resolve dependencies to dbus, x11, curl, and alsa. The latest list is available from the official RealNetworks Build FAQ. In order to obtain the plain source code of the RealPlayer you need to download the sources from the helixcommunity website and acknowledge the binary EULA. This is due to the limited redistribution of the RealVideo and RealAudio Codec. The patch was created against the cvs repository at 2006-03-23 using the following settings for the build system ribosome:
However, I do expect the patch to work against future
versions as well since the common part is quite stable. The diff file was created using cvs diff -uw.
In order to apply the patch unzip the source code files, optionally rename the directory to player_all_ulla-realplay_gtk_stable-DATE/,
cd into the newly created directory and use Then you need to add at least the following line to the buildrc file: SetSDKPath("oggvorbissdk", "/usr/local") Before you build the player double-check if you have the ULLA Core installed correctly, thus having the ulla.h and ullalu.h files in the /usr/include directory. Use make, make install to build the player. It might take about 30min to finish. If you have any problems try following the guidelines. When the build process has finished you can use debug/realplay-10.0.6.1543-linux-2.2-libc6-gcc32-i586.bin (or similar) to install the player. You can test your player using the following teststream. © RWTH Aachen University. All rights reserved. 2006
